So I got some important news to share and kind of let the cat out of bag here, but as I posted a couple of weeks ago I had to go to Nashville for some meetings and I can now share the news. I have signed a production deal with producer and musician Mark Burch (Billy Currington among others) to produce our new album. I feel he’s a great fit as he not only has his finger on the pulse of today’s country music from a producers standpoint, he also is an incredible musician as incuding being an independent producer, he also tours and plays keys with Billy Currington. I’m very excited to work with a fellow musician and amazing producer on FINALLY getting the next album together. Me and some of the boys will be heading down to Nashville next week to get it all rolling and start laying down some tracks at the world famous Castle Recording Studio in Frankin. We still have a ways to go to get where we would like to be, but I’d like thank a few people who have helped the last few years in at least helping us get to this next HUGE step. Special thanks to Morgan Alexander, Brian Chester White, Kenny Ace Bott, Kevin Sharpe at Metro 37 studios, Sean Tabler (The Coop Show) and everyone at WYCD, Alex Handy, Jaimie Ward, Kyra Hellam from 95.9, Michael Raffin, Greg Stryker, everyone that played on the demos, Ed, Craig and Russ from the Nashville crew and most of all friends, fans, and families of the band that keep coming out to our shows…your support means the most to all of us and we are sure to give it hell! (If I forgot someone I’m sorry…lol.) So to all of our Nashville friends, see ya next week and I will post some blogs and take some pics of the process to keep everyone updated!!!!!!

So much has happened since the New Year I thought I wanted to share with everyone whats happening in the world of the David Shelby Band. First off, the summer concert schedule is filling up nicely. We are starting to branch out more and our travel schedule is starting to get busy so please check back frequently to the tour page of the website for cities near you that you could come on out and party with us. We had our first taste of the new travel schedule recently with a two night concert series up in Alpena, Michigan. All I can say is the people that put on the event at the Aplex as well as the new friends and fans we met up north are incredible. Everyone was so nice and despite the worst snow fall of the winter we had an incredible turnout. The Aplex was rockin’ and everyone had a great time both nights. The highlight being that two local charities benefited greatly from the generosity of the fine residents of Alpena. The Thunder Bay Art Council as well as the local Junior Achievement Board were each presented a check by myself during the intermission to help with their great causes. Overall the whole trip was a complete success and we feel like me met friends and fans for life.

Another major development is that after a long and hard process of setting things up…..THE NEW ALBUM IS FINALLY BEING FINISHED…wooooohooooo. We have reduced our live schedule for about a month or so and I am heading down to Nashville shortly to start putting the finishing touches on our new album and I promise that it will be released this spring in time for our summer concert schedule. I am very proud of this whole project as both cities….Detroit and Nashville both have their influences on it. So far in playing some demos for executivies they were most excited in the fact that it sounds like we have captured a blend of the D meets the Music City in a new a fresh way. I can’t wait for ya’ll to hear it and I am hoping this is the album that puts us over the top. We absolutely do appreciate all of the support and love from the fans that we have gotten through the years and I am fully confident that once the album comes out and with your help we will knock it out of the park with this one. There are so many faces and people that I see at every show and I just want to say again how much I do appreciate every one of you. So wether you haven’t seen us in a while….or your there for every show….you can look forward to a new stage show this spring with new tunes, a renewed energy and as always and perhaps most importantly…..a good time!!!!! I will see ya’ll real soon at a gig near you, and one more thing, this year for the 99.5 hoedown the bands are being chosen by fan vote so if you get a minute or two (or several hundred…haha) during the day please pop over to 99.5’s website and vote for us to rock Downtown Detroit for the 5th consecutive year! I hope everyone stays healthy and happy……

We just had our first opportunity to showcase and exhibit at the “2011 Michigan Festivals & Events Association” convention this past weekend and an incredible time was had by all. Special thanks go out to Sharon Muczinski, Jaimie Ward, and Samantha Muczinski for representing the band in the most professional manner. We met so many people from around the state who put on all of the various local fairs and festivals. One thing that struck me most is how much all of these officials care about their local communities and how hard they work to put on these events for the residents in their cities and townships. In a word, it was heartwarming and really makes you appreciate the work that goes into these events. Many of these people are volunteers for their communities and do an excellent job putting these events together. Of course, come to find out….they also like to have a good time doing what they do The highlight of the weekend was when we got to perform in a showcase to a standing room only crowd on Saturday night. I was proud of Clint, Bernie, Steve, Brian, Nick and Mike as we threw down our flavor of music and rocked the crowd “country style”. We already have several confirmed bookings for 2012 which will be posted as soon as the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted, but look for us to be coming to a community event in your neck of the woods throughout Michigan. On that note, even if we are not booked at your community event, be sure to go out next summer and support your local fairs and festivals…not only is it good for the soul to support and become involved in your own backyard, but based on what I saw this weekend, you’re in for a “good time”!

“There’s a certain bit of attitude that comes from the Motor City. One artist who should know that better than anyone is David Shelby. He calls his music “Nashville meets Detroit,” and with good reason. It has the country sound, but also is balanced with a good bit of soul.” ….

Welcome to the blog section of the David Shelby NEW website. It’s very exciting for me to have a lot going on and periodically I will be personally posting some blogs about numerous topics. This summer has been the busiest on record for me. On top of shows there is much more behind the scenes that is happening that is truly exciting. Among the highlights of the summer thus far have been a live on air performance on “The Coop Show” as part of his Thursday Night Live Series where they had a world premier of my new single Cowgirls. I was especially proud of the fact that Coop told me it was the biggest turnout they ever had. We managed to cram over 50 people into the studio and we did an acoustic performance in studio as well has mingled, signed autographs, and enjoyed some good grub with fans. Mad props goes out to Coop and 99.5 WYCD for the invite as well as the support. I hope in the near future we can jam the phone lines with requests once the new album is in the box as they say.

Another big project going on is I was invited to be on a TV reality show called Not So Stable being filmed at a horse farm here in Michigan. Needless to say, no one is oblivious to what the economic downturn has done to many families during these hard times. With Michigan being especially hit hard with the auto industry and mortgage collapse many people have suffered. The show is about one of these families. The father used to have a successful construction company and with the housing crisis he and his family lost almost everything including their home which unfortunately went into foreclosure. Faced with the reality of soon being homeless. They turned to the only investment and means of income they had to try and survive, a horse farm that was mainly used as a hobby farm and a second means of income for them. The father is now turning an outbuilding on the farm into a house for his family and they now run the farms day to day operation. The show basically follows them and their struggles to get back on their feet. Being a horse guy myself, they invited me out for a little riding and I even did a couple of tunes for the people at the barn and they threw an awesome bbq party for the day. Everyone at the barn treated me so well and were too kind. It was touching to find out first hand what they were going through and one song I did called “Prayer of the Broken” kind of parallels what they were going through and things got very emotional in the barn when I did an acoustic version of it. I was honored when the producer asked for the full recorded version for possible use in the show. They even came out and filmed last Friday night to our show at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and it was a blast just getting to hang out and enjoy the night with the cast from the barn. It was a great to meet the family as well as the other boarders at the barn and I truly feel like I made some friends for life. The father is absolutely an inspiration and is the type of guy you want to load a cooler on the back of your horse, head down a trail, and spend a great day drinking some beers and telling some good stories with. I really look forward to staying involved as much as they will have me and I will keep you posted on when everything will air. In the mean time, here is a link to a trailer from my visit: http://youtu.be/hZmi9fI4WVA

Also, follow them on Twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/notsostabletv

The last big project going on is the finishing of the album. Lot’s to talk about there but I’ll save that for the next blog!

Peace!

Dave
